The Larry H. Miller Tour of Utah organizers announced the host cities for the 2012 event. The six day, UCI 2.1 rated stage race will be held from August 7-12, 2012 and will feature 16 teams, including at least five top pro teams.
The 2012 USA Cycling Cyclocross National Championships took place near Madison, Wisconsin in January. Nearly 150 of the country’s best 45-80 year-old cyclo-cross bike racers tackled the course at Badger Prairie Park on an unseasonably warm January day in Wisconsin. In the women’s 50-54 competition, the action came late in the race. Kris Walker (Pocatello, Idaho/The Contender Club) built a lead approaching 15 seconds heading into the last of the four-lap affair.
Rolling out of bed (without alarm clock anxiety surprisingly), I asked myself exactly what I was doing up at such an hour. Oh yeah, a ‘cross race…and not just any ‘cross race, but the Single Speed Cyclocross World Championships (aka SSCXWC).
Race number 3 of the Clammy Cross Cyclocross series went down on November 26 at Art Dye Park in American Fork, Utah.
On June 7, 2011, twenty four year old Brynn Barton was struck and killed on 700 E at around 750 S. by a hit and run driver. According to Salt Lake City police, it appears as though she was not on her bike when she was hit, and was possibly on the roadway already.
As states, both Utah and Idaho leave a lot to be desired when it comes to bicycle friendliness. Both states got low or failing grades in most of the six subjects they were graded on by the League of American Bicyclists (LAB): legislation, policies & programs, infrastructure, education & encouragement, evaluation & planning and enforcement. Both states fell below average in the annual Bicycle Friendly America State rankings.
A pot of gold for promoting bicycle safety remains largely unused in most of the country. It comes from the same federal law that funds Transportation Enhancements, Recreational Trails, and the Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality grants, long used for bicycle projects.
