I’m an old-school roadie. That means that I tend to favor lugged steel frames, Campagnolo components, and tubular wheels & tires, so it has to take something special to get me to make a change. My primary ride for many years has been a 2003 Richard Sachs Signature road bike, initially built up with a […]
By Kristin Portolese-Petersen A few years ago I picked up a copy of Behind The Stare by Geoff Proctor. Being a sports fan, with little cyclocross knowledge outside of the Utah Cyclocross Series (UTCX), I was fascinated with the Euro-Cross scene depicted in this book. When I finished the book I put a Belgian cross […]
By Tyler Wren Fall is one of my favorite times of year- I get time at home here in Utah, a little break from my training regime, and, Cyclocross!! To me, ‘cross is cycling’s most fascinating and technically challenging discipline. It combines fitness, bike handling, cornering, pack riding, running and, of course, dismounting and remounting. […]
His primary sponsor bailed on him. Just as he was getting ready for the biggest races of the season. But Utah resident Jonathon Page wasn’t about to let the lack of a bike sponsor get him down. No, the no-nonsense racer scrambled, found a bike sponsor in Fuji and counted on long-standing relationships with long-standing product sponsors to get him to the start line at USA Cycling Cyclocross Elite National Championships.
January 7, 2013 – Salt Lake City – The one-of-a-kind “Crusher in the Tushar” – the road/dirt bicycle race through Utah’s Tushar mountain range – promises to be as challenging and unusual as it has been in its first two editions, race organizer Burke Swindlehurst said as field size and depth increases for 2013. […]
Anyone who knows me knows how much I love the sport of cyclocross; so much so that is my 9th year officiating the Utah Cyclocross Series. People may not know that I love the history of the sport of cycling as much as I enjoy watching the sport in current times.
We caught up with cyclocross superstar Jonathan Page on June 29th. The 36 year old rider just moved to Utah and will be sure to shake up the local racing scene. Page was the 2006 Silver Medalist in the UCI World Cyclocross Championships, and 2003 and 2004 U.S. National Champion. He raced in Europe last […]
By Jared Eborn You’re rolling along, through the mud and gunk with an eye on that guy in front of you, just around the next turn. With time running out and each pedal stroke valuable in your effort to close the gap, you reach the left fingers out and tap the shifter as you move […]
The 2012 USA Cycling Cyclocross National Championships took place near Madison, Wisconsin in January. Nearly 150 of the country’s best 45-80 year-old cyclo-cross bike racers tackled the course at Badger Prairie Park on an unseasonably warm January day in Wisconsin. In the women’s 50-54 competition, the action came late in the race. Kris Walker (Pocatello, Idaho/The Contender Club) built a lead approaching 15 seconds heading into the last of the four-lap affair.
