SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH (March 6, 2013) – The Ultimate Challenge presented by the Larry H. Miller Tour of Utah, a non-competitive, endurance bicycle ride for individuals and riding buddies,  returns for a third year on the same day and on the same route as Stage Five of the Tour of Utah.  On Saturday, August 10, seventeen of the world’s best professional cycling teams will race the Larry H. Miller Tour of Utah from Snowbasin Resort to Snowbird Ski and Summer Resort.  The Ultimate Challenge gives amateur cyclists the opportunity to ride the same grueling mountain course as the pro riders earlier in the day through the scenic Wasatch Range of the Rocky Mountains.

Changes for The Ultimate Challenge in 2013 include:

  • New start at Snowbasin Resort.
  • Two new locations for shorter ride options that offer Tour of Utah Viewing Parties at these alternative finish lines. (Details available pending official Tour of Utah route announcement.)
  • A new Ultimate Challenge Femme, specially designed for women, offers ride options of 30 miles and 60 miles.
  • Jerseys for both men and women.
  • New hotel packages in Ogden and Snowbird Ski and Summer Resort.

Registration is now open online, http://tourofutah.com/2013/ultimate-challenge. Last year 503 amateur cyclists, representing 22 states and three countries, took part in The Ultimate Challenge.

All participants receive ride support, hydration stops, post-ride lunch, souvenir sport socks from DNA Cycling, and an event t-shirt. Additional items from event sponsors will be announced this summer.  A commemorative Ultimate Challenge cycling jersey is available.

Last year’s Tour of Utah Viewing Parties will return for the shorter ride options of The Ultimate Challenge presented by the Larry H. Miller Tour of Utah. Two Viewing Parties will treat Ultimate Challenge riders to meals and race viewing on big screen HDTV’s via Adobe Tour Tracker®. The Ultimate Challenge Femme course will cater specifically to women riders with shorter courses, though women are welcome to ride the full distance starting from Snowbasin Resort.

Stage Five of the Larry H. Miller Tour of Utah is known as the “Queen Stage” of the six-day professional stage race, as it features more than 10,000 feet of climbing.  The traditional 100-mile route, with a summit finish at Snowbird Ski and Summer Resort, will be modified to include the new race route through Weber, Morgan, Summit and Salt Lake counties.

Hotel packages and full route details, including starts, intermediate finishes, and Viewing Party locations, will become available pending the official Tour of Utah route announcement later this spring.  For inquiries about registration, please contact Dirk Cowley, [email protected] or (801) 699-5126.
