(NORTH LAKE TAHOE, California/Nevada) – The 2nd Annual Adventure Sports Week Tahoe, scheduled for Friday, June 15 through Sunday, June 24, will host a series of triathlons and trail running events in addition to its other outdoor sporting competitions, clinics taught by professionals, live musical concerts and family-friendly activities.

“Adventure Sports Week Tahoe capitalizes on North Lake Tahoe’s scenic beauty and challenging terrain,” said Event Director Todd Jackson of Adventure Sports Week Tahoe. “It is specifically for those that love exploring and testing their body and mind in an environment that exemplifies what is pure and natural. Whether you’re a beginner or a seasoned professional, we have a program that will intrigue and excite you.”

Adventure Sports Week Tahoe’s trail running events are part of the Tahoe Trail Running Series and are presented by Salomon. The competition kicks off at Lake Tahoe’s secret state park, Burton Creek, which is in Tahoe City. This lesser-known park features more than 2,000 acres of forest and meadowland. The Burton Creek Trail Run, June 17, takes place on the park’s miles of single track. Competitors will hear the creek often and enjoy the area’s wildflowers as they take part in the run’s 5K, 10K, Half Marathon or Marathon distance. The Half Marathon is part of the 2012 Trail Runner Trophy Series.

The Run to Squaw, June 24, is held on one of North Shore’s more popular routes, the paved Truckee River Bike Trail. This is a perfect event for those eager to run fast or those new to running as it has very little elevation gain. Participants start at scenic Commons Beach in Tahoe City and run the 7.9-mile course along the Truckee River to the heart of the Village at Squaw. Aid stations are along the entire route.

Alpenglow Sports, headquartered in Tahoe City, and Salomon have partnered with Adventure Sports Week Tahoe to host a Trail Running Celebration June 21, noon to 10 p.m. The outdoor gear shop will have 200 pairs of free demo shoes on hand for participants to try out. Salomon’s 28-foot mobile showroom will be onsite to showcase their full line of running equipment and apparel. Guests will take a scenic jaunt along the famed Tahoe Rim Trail at 3 p.m. followed by a question-and-answer session with the top Salomon trail runners, including those taking part in the Western States 100-mile run.

Adventure Sports Week Tahoe’s triathlon competitions all take place on June 23 with three different races for competitors to choose from. XTERRA Tahoe City, one of the events that make up the XTERRA US Point Series, has outdoor enthusiasts swimming two 750-meter laps in Lake Tahoe with a 50-meter beach run, mountain biking 22 miles and trail running five miles throughout the North Lake Tahoe region.

The XTERRA Tahoe City Sprint offers shorter distances with one 750-meter swim, 13-mile mountain bike ride and a three-mile trail run. The XTERRA Tahoe City Duathlon is a two-mile run, 22-mile ride, followed up by a six-mile run.
