April 29, 2016 – Due to recent rains that have left sections of the Wild Horse Dirt Fondo muddy and very slippery, organizer Chris Magerl made the call today to reschedule the event to May 14, 2016.
He sent this statement to Cycling West and to event participants:
The Wild Horse has been postponed from Saturday, April 30, to Saturday, May 14, 2016.
This is not an easy call. I know the new date might cause conflicts for some of you. This email will explain your options. I will do right by you.
Optimism can be a crazy thing. Despite the weather forecast showing rain falling all morning Saturday, and despite my experience trying to move a bike through the rain on this course last year (photos attached), I headed out to Delle today thinking I could convince myself that we could stay with this Saturday’s date.
Then I got out of the truck less than two miles from the start, and found it almost impossible to even stand up. The mud is so, so slippery. Keeping a bicycle upright would not be possible. Getting emergency vehicles onto course would be impossible. Keeping you safe would be impossible.
Safety of riders and volunteers is the most important aspect of this choice.
Registration will reopen for those who were interested in being a part of The Wild Horse but could not take part on April 30. Registration now closes on Thursday night, May 12, at 11:59 P.M.
Thank you for your understanding. Hope to see you on May 14! The Taco Truck has already confirmed!
As always, updated information can be found at RideWildHorse.com/News and Facebook.com/RideWildHorse.
