Nation's best ready to rock and roll at NCS

PARK CITY, UTAH - More than 2,000 mountain biking enthusiasts - from this country's top professional riders to local first time novices - will race, ride, jump, show-off and simply enjoy their mountain bikes at Deer Valley's Chevy Trucks NORBA National Championship Series, July 22 - 25, 1999.

This nationwide series of mountain bike events features top pro racers chasing national titles in cross-country, downhill, dual slalom, and making its debut this year, short-track cross-country racing.

Competitors compile points from six national races throughout the season to obtain national medals. This year's six events take place in Snow Summit, CA; Welch Village Resort, MN; Seven Springs, PA; Mammoth Mountain, CA; Mount Snow, VT and Deer Valley, UT.

Racers are pre-qualified by level of ability, and grouped into categories such as junior, junior expert, beginner, sport, expert, semi-pro and professional. In addition to the professionals vying for titles, amateur riders of all ages and abilities are invited to participate in the series.

Familiar pros expected to compete in this year's event at Deer Valley include Eric Carter, Mercedes Gonzalez, Brian Lopes, Tinker Juarez, Ruthie Matthes, Tara Llanes, Kirt Voreis, Shaun Palmer and John Tomac.

Spectator favorites include the women's Pro Cross Country-Friday at 10 am, the men's Pro CC- Friday at 1 p.m., the women's and men's Pro Short-Track CC- Saturday at 4 and 4:45 p.m. respectively, the Pro Dual Slalom finals- Saturday at 5:30, and the Pro Downhill-Sunday 1-3 p.m.
