Volunteer and Daytime Shop Coordinator

Reporting To: Salt Lake City Director

Rate of Pay: $12-14hr doe

Part-Time to Full Time 30-40 hours per week

The mission of the Bicycle Collective is to promote cycling as an effective and sustainable form of transportation and as a cornerstone of a cleaner, healthier, and safer society. The Collective provides refurbished bicycles and educational programs to the community, focusing on children and lower income households.
The Volunteer and Daytime Shop Coordinator is responsible for volunteer coordination, retention, recruitment and nurturing as well as managing daytime apprentices, community service participants, Goodwill Bikes, and volunteers.  18-24 hours per week will be spent in the shop during daytime volunteer and goodwill bike hours and 12-17 hours will be spent on volunteer coordination and other activities
Job Responsibilities:
Establish and maintain relationships with Bicycle Collective Volunteers, apprentices, and community service participants
Meet with new volunteers, schedule orientation, and assign to specific volunteer activities/roles
Develop relationships with our current “core volunteers” in order to effectively utilize their skill sets, reduce volunteer burnout, inspire engagement, and cultivate teamwork and community.  This includes facilitating a monthly volunteer meeting and monitoring “core volunteers” required hours.
Recruit stand-out volunteers to join our “core volunteer” team
Recruit new volunteers who incorporate a variety of skills and embody the bicycle collective’s culture of inclusivity and diversity.
Organize volunteer activities
Work with Apprentices and daytime volunteers in the shop including assisting apprentices with project bicycles and teaching them bike mechanics as they progress through the program.   This includes facilitating apprentice mentors and team work.
Track and Monitor Apprentices, sign off of segments of the program, and stay informed of each apprentice’s progress
Schedule Apprentices and daytime volunteers.
Schedule, direct, and supervise Community Service Volunteers.
Schedule Goodwill Bike appointments, and meet with goodwill recipients to match them with the appropriate bicycle, register their bicycle, and get onto the road safely.
Contribute to the cleanliness of the shop and daytime operations.
Work as a team with the bicycle collective staff, complete other tasks as directed.

 

Requirements:

Experience as a bicycle mechanic, preferably working on a variety of types and ages of bicycles

Ability to thrive in an environment of a diverse group of people

Knowledge of Google Drive/Docs, Microsoft Word, Printing and Fax technology.

Passion for bicycle transportation and/or an interest in creating livable, healthy and sustainable communities

Ability to inspire volunteers
Prefered Experience:

Volunteer Coordination, Management, or Teaching experience preferred

Experience working with disenfranchised, marginalized, or low-income people

Conversant in Spanish, Arabic, or other language spoken by Salt Lake refugee populations
