By Charles Pekow — High schools would become eligible for Safe Routes to School grants under pending legislation. Currently, only elementary and middle schools can participate. Senator Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.) and Senator Kevin Cramer (R-ND) introduced the Safe Routes to All Schools Act (S. 3183), which was referred to the Committee on Environment and Public Works.
While the committee hasn’t acted on the bill itself, the language was included in the American’s Transportation Infrastructure Act of 2019 (S. 2302), which the committee passed. It is awaiting action by the full Senate.
